Eberhard H. Zeidler - Architect Of The Week - July 2008 - 4th Week

Eberhard H. Zeidler as a Senior Partner in the firm , has over 50 years of architectural experience on landmark projects of almost every building type built in dozens of countries spanning the globe . These include the Eaton centre in Toronto , Canada place in Vancouver , BNI city office tower in Jakarta , the Kravis performing arts centre in Florida and many others .

His current work involves the Trump international hotel and Towers , the Minto Midtown development , and Emaar Dubai development . More than 400 articles have been published by leading professional magazines in addition the work has appeared in a number of architectural texts . He has written two books ” Healing the hospital ” and ” Multi-Use Architecture in the Urban Context ” .
Two books have been written ” Eberhard Zeidler : In search of human space ” ( Ernst & Sohn ) . Among the many awards and honor he has received  is the gold medal of the RAIC and four honor degrees for universities . From 1984 to 2000 , Mr. Zeidler was an adjunct professor of architectural design at the University of Toronto .

The Firm’s continuity in terms of overlapping partners can be traced back to 1980. Today, the firm is led by three senior partners: Tarek El–Khatib, Alan Munn, Eb–Zeidler and eight general partners.

Zeidler projects cover virtually the entire range of architectural building types, urban design, master planning and interior design. The firm’s major body of work is historically located in Canada and the USA, with a significant, rapidly growing international presence in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Built upon a 1,100-foot long pier that was significantly extended in 2003, this 1.78 million-square foot mixed-use waterfront development initially served as the Canadian pavilion for expo ‘86.

The complex now contains the 384,000-square foot Vancouver Trade and convention center, and 243,000-square foot world trade center office. It also features the 505-room pan pacific hotel, 43,000 square feet of retail space, fully equipped five-berth cruise ship terminal, 480-seat 3-D IMAX cinema, bus depot, and 770 parking space. Promenades, located on both sides of the building and on various levels, offer dramatic views of the mountains and Stanley Park. They lead to an urban piazza at the and of the pier which features a 1,000-seat amphitheatre, restaurants, and small shopping center.
