Matilde Alessandra
Born in Italy and graduated in Theatre Design in Venice. Her career started in New York City in the late 90’s; here she began experimenting with light, placing fluorescent tubes on painted canvasses and behind plastic panels.
Since then she has developed and earned recognition both as an artist and as industrial lighting designer.
Inspired by painting and installation art, in her pieces light assumes an important structural function that defines the decorative value of the piece itself. Thin fluorescent tubes, almost constantly present in her pieces, perfectly fit a language that is concise and straightforward, made essentially of lines and surfaces.
Matilde Alessandra’s work ranging from whole installations to industrial design, her work is noted for the unconventional use of light, vibrant colors and bold simplicity, aimed to communicate with the viewer with maximum immediacy.
She now lives and work between Brussels and New York.
