Satyendra Pakhalé - Designer Of The Week July 2007 - 4th Week

International designer, Satyendra Pakhalé, was born in 1967 in India. 
After completing his Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Design in India and Advanced Product Design in Switzerland, he worked at Philips Design in the Netherlands. In 1998 he set up his own design practice in Amsterdam. Since then he has been working on his own projects and designs.
Recently Satyendra has been invited to head the Master Program in Humanitarian Design at Design Academy Eindhoven, NL. His prime interest is the design of mass producible technically challenging personal products, objects to transportation systems as well as limited edition pieces.

Fish Chair

A plastic armchair designed by Satyendra and manufactured by Cappellini.  The external surface is available in red, dark grey, yellow, gypsum white, blue, orange and green colors. The seat internal surface is always in white color.

Santiago Calatrava - Architect Of The Week July 2007 - 4th Week

Spanish Architect, engineer and artist Santiago Calatrava was born in 1951 in Spain. He attended primary and secondary school in Valencia and pursued undergraduate studies at the Arts and Crafts School. He enrolled in the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura, where he earned a degree in architecture and took a post-graduate course in urbanism. After completing his Ph.D. at the ETH, Calatrava started his architecture and engineering practice in Zurich followed by offices in Paris and Valencia.  He won his international reputation for designing several bridges, railway stations, large-scale public projects and high rise buildings. Calatrava has received 13 honorary doctorates throughout his career in addition to several awards.

Valencia City of Arts & Sciences

Designed by Valencia architect Santiago Calatrava, the City of Arts and Sciences Complex is an impressive example of modern architecture.  The complex encloses Science Museum, opera house and Arts Centre, Planetarium, promenade and parking.

Tom Dixon - Designer Of The Week July 2007 - 3rd Week

Born in Tunisia in 1959, British industrial designer Tom Dixon began designing furniture in his early 20s.His designs have entered the global league through famous shows at major venues like the Milan Furniture Fair and the London Design Museum, where Tom is nominated for the Designer of the Year. Tom engages in many design-focused speaking events around the world and he is known for his appearances on the covers of various design magazines.
He is currently the creative director of Artek, the Finnish furniture manufacturer.

Trafalgar Great Chair Grab

Tom Dixon designed 500 lightweight Polystyrene chairs.  The chairs were displayed in the middle of London Design Festival 2006 in Trafalgar Square and were given away for free to the British Public.
